The blog enters the marketplace with a handful of other cruise lines (see the list here) who have decided to add digital media as part of their marketing plans. In fact, in an statement by Randall Soy, the line’s executive vice president, it looks like Regent Seven Seas is making a big effort to enhance their digital footprint.

Soy hopes that “the new blog and (their) enhanced social media efforts on Facebook and Twitter will provide guests with fascinating and useful information about the ports they will visit and give them a more intimate experience with cultures and customs of the world.”

The blog, which posted their inaugural message on January 7, 2013 is a work in progress (1 post so far, limited categories, hosted by WordPress not a self-hosted blog on their servers). With room to grow, cruisers will eventually be able to enjoy blog posts about Regent Seven Seas Cruises places that the all-inclusive luxury line visits, which include insider tips and destination information guests can use when planning their cruise vacation.

Welcome aboard Mara Papatheodorou, special contributing editor.

As part of the digital strategy, the cruise line announced the appointment of Mara Papatheodorou as its special contributing editor (you can check out her website here).

Papatheodorou, a taste and traditions expert (what a great job!), will provide a regular blog feature called Sail, Sip & Savor. A former editor at Bon Appétit magazine, who oversaw the magazine’s international and entertaining stories, Papatheodorou will explore the history of cuisine and culture in popular ports of call and will also provide suggestions on where to dine locally and shop for special ingredients and other products unique to the region.

From Papatheodorou’s extensive travels with a culinary perspective, she knows it is all there for the tasting whether it is limoncello in Capri, pizza in Naples, herbs in Provence, honey in Greece, whiskey in Scotland, paella in Valencia or gelato in Florence. As Papatheodorou says, “the joy of travel mixed with the intrigue of ingredients of a country’s culture and cuisine is a delicious and unforgettable combination.” She will also share her insights on the line’s Facebook page and Twitter feeds.

Other regular blog features include More to Explore, an inside look at the best tours and excursions for every destination, and Insider, a behind-the-scenes look at the line from executives, staff and crew as well as special announcements on topics relevant to travelers.
