Kotor’s Old Town Walls and Fortress Hike

Places of interest when calling on Kotor, Montenegro include many attractions like the Old Town Walls that cruise visitors can climb for a nominal fee. When we visited on Azamara Journey, Hotel Director Heike and Cruise Director Eric invited interested guests on a hike up to the top of the fortress.

Going Up?

When Sophia and I set out to tour Kotor, Montenegro the last thing on my mind was walking to the top of the hill to see the town from a different perspective. Little did I know that late in the afternoon we would be spending some cash on an entrance ticket to pay for what was both a pleasurable experience (I only thought that when I got back down) and total torture (it’s an elevation of 830 feet above sea level).

Climbing the stairs (the path is nicely maintained)  up to the St. John’s fortress is a perfect hike for those looking for amazing view and vistas of the Old Town of Kotor, Montenegro.
