Oasis of the Seas Internet Speed Gets a Boost
O3b Networks and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. enter into Agreement for Ultra-Fast Internet Communications aboard Oasis of the Seas
Oasis of the Seas Internet Speed Overhaul
O3b Networks announced a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. to provide high-speed satellite-delivered broadband service aboard Oasis of the Seas; the deal should be complete by summer 2013.
As a cruise guest, I have long cited slow Internet speeds as one of the most annoying features found on cruise ships. If O3b Networks can indeed provide faster service, then that will definitely be a step in the right direction. Adam Goldstein, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International hopes that “this milestone agreement with O3b Networks will enable us to provide our guests with unprecedented Internet service at sea aboard Oasis of the Seas.”
Royal Caribbean cruise guests on Oasis of the Seas will be the first to utilize O3b Maritime, which delivers the reach of satellite and the speed and latency of fiber at a fraction of the cost of conventional providers. If things work out on Oasis of the Seas, then cruise guests can look forward to potential expansion aboard other ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet.
“At O3b, we believe that affordable, high speed broadband should always be within reach” – Steve Collar, Chief Executive Officer, O3b Networks
“From the moment we met the Royal Caribbean team we were struck by an intense customer focus and a determination to provide an unrivaled cruise experience to their guests on board,” said Steve Collar, Chief Executive Officer, O3b Networks. “With O3b Maritime, Oasis of the Seas will experience connection speeds that are an order of magnitude higher and latency that is four times lower than offered in the market today. At O3b, we believe that affordable, high speed broadband should always be within reach – wherever you are in the world, on land and at sea – and we are delighted to showcase the unrivaled performance of O3b Maritime together with Royal Caribbean.”
