Carnival Cruise Line in the Spotlight
I am super excited that Carnival Cruise Line has agreed to jump into the #CruiseChat Spotlight. I have a lot of respect for their creative team and their social media programs. I can’t wait to see what we create during our hour of Twitter fun on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 2:pm EST.
With that said, it is going to be a fast and furious #cruisechat all about Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship Carnival Magic.
Must-know Carnival Magic terms
- Cloud 9 Spa: A private wellness retreat, which includes a thalassotherapy pool, a thermal suite, and a fitness center.
- Cucina del Capitano: A new dining venue on Carnival Magic. Cucina del Capitano, (“The Captain’s Kitchen”) is a dinnertime option with made-to-order Italian favorites. Many of the dishes and recipes were hand-selected by Carnival’s captains. Dinner carries a nominal fee. During the day, the space is utilized as a casual made-to-order pasta bar with items offered on a complimentary basis.
- Red Frog Pub: An island-inspired venue offering a taste of the Caribbean including Thirsty Frog Red, a private-label draught beer brewed especially for Carnival Magic. Get ready for Bahamian conch salad, grouper fingers, firecracker Jamaican chicken wings, and other Caribbean favorites. Red Frog Pub will also offer tastings of top-rated rums of the Caribbean and a collection of the region’s best beers.
- Ropes Course: The cruise industry’s first ropes course. Adventure travelers can strap into a safety harness and choose from a beginner or intermediate course, traversing across rope bridges, swinging steps and beams suspended above the top deck.
- Serenity: an adult-only area on Carnival Magic, offering comfortable chaise lounges and chairs, hammocks, colorful umbrellas, and whirlpools, along with full bar service.
- SportsSquare: The SportsSquare recreation complex includes the first outdoor weightlifting area on a cruise ship, along with Carnival’s first two-level miniature golf course, a Vita exercise course, a lighted multi-purpose court for basketball, volleyball and soccer, along with ping pong and foosball tables. A full bar with a large flat-screen display is available for those who just want to relax and check out the sports action in the area or on TV.

- WaterWorks: Carnival Magic’s aqua park. Features an exhilarating “Twister” spiral water slide, as well as the new Aqua Play splash park designed for youngsters and their families, featuring a gigantic, 300-gallon “dump bucket” and other wet ‘n wild features.

- Carnival Magic “contest” fact: Captain Cutugno needed a new name for an old family recipe to be served at Cucina del Capitano. Contest winner Ted Fazioli came up with Il Bacio del Mare (“The Kiss of the Sea”).
- Carnival Magic “contest” fact: The WaterWorks dump buck attraction was named Power Drencher by Judy Yee.
- Carnival Magic “contest” fact: Carnival Magic’s 9-hole mini golf course is named “Turf on Surf” from a submission by Shaun Mullin.
- Family cruise fact: Carnival is the top-rated cruise line for families carrying 670,000 kids in 2011.
- Family cruise fact: Carnival Magic offers more than 19,000 square feet of space catering to kids and families. There are dedicated spaces for children (Camp Carnival), ‘tweens (Circle “C”) and teens (Club O2), with organized activities and enthusiastic counselors for each group. There is also a variety of open deck activities, including a multipurpose court, water park and the first-ever ropes course at sea.
