Cruise visitors embarking or disembarking a cruise ship in San Diego will most definitely not want to hurry home. San Diego is one of the best port towns available. The proximity of the airport or train station to the port makes getting around on foot or via public transportation a snap.

The dual-branded, 400-room Marriott SpringHill Suites and Residence Inn hotel is a great option for cruise visitors with limited time in port. The proximity to the pier can’t be beat. Located in a building that locals refer to as BRIC, which is a play of the names of the intersecting streets at Broadway and Pacific Highway, the Marriott SpringHill Suites-Residence Inn hotel is perfect for modern travelers looking for a connection to the city.

The location of the property on what was once part of Lane Field, which Wikipedia tells me was a former baseball stadium located in San Diego, California. The ballpark was home to the  San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League from 1936 through 1957.

Look for innovative artwork throughout the property that helps bring a sense of place to the interior designs.

When planning on where to stay in San Diego, consider lodging at the Residence Inn & SpringHill Suites located at the  San Diego Downtown Bayfront. This hotel is easy to recognize with its cheerful  yellow stripe covering the south-facing elevator tower.

The hotel is one of many options offered in the San Diego Downtown area. The orientation of the hotel is such that getting a room on a high floor overlooking the water is a must.

Cruise guests will like that the hotel is within walking distance of the pier and many top attractions along the waterfront. The property offers stylish decor with extra amenities that satisfy tech-savvy guests. The room I stayed in on the 15th floor had amazing views. There were two queen beds and a sofa. The size of the room was big enough to easily accommodate families cruising from San Diego. The floor-to-ceiling windows provided panoramic views of the San Diego Bay. And the mini fridge was a nice amenity for guests who planned on bringing their own food or drinks into the room, a nice option for those guests staying for an extended stay.

The hotel has a swimming pool, weight room, and breakfast room where many guests enjoyed a complimentary breakfast of hot and cold food items, not to mention plenty of coffee, tea, or an assortment of juices.

There are plenty of places for cruise visitors to enjoy if they did not have a rental car during their stay. In fact, I took the train to San Diego and relied on Uber to take me around, if necessary. But the harbor area has plenty to keep cruise visitors busy. Some of the easy-to-get-to places to explore from the hotel include:

Check the map before you go. The hotel is most easily recognized by the yellow stripe on the building. If relying on GPS call the hotel and verify the address. Because the ways the roads run, it could be a little confusing to find the hotel.
