Port Buzz: San Juan, Puerto Rico via MSC Cruises

Welcome to Puerto Rico. This is our second port of call during a 7-day Caribbean cruise.

 

San Juan is a very easy port to explore on one’s own, so Brian and I walked to the Castillo San Cristobal. We got off the ship around 10:00 am but before we did, I had a cappuccino at Cafe Italia and Brian got to have a photo with the captain.

We loved having the ship to ourselves to capture some of the faces of the crew that are normally very busy. Brian took most of the photos below (not bad for a nine-year-old).

 

Juice bar anyone?

I love getting fresh squeezed vegetable concoctions from the juice bar. For less than

$5.00 cruise passengers can get a big gulp of health in a glass.

 

Castillo San Cristobal

Make the trek up to The Castillo de San Cristóbal, which is a Spanish fort in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Cruise passengers can walk aroung the fortifications that were built by Spain to protect against land based attacks. Kids are free and adults can pay $5.00 US for a pass to this San Juan National Historic Site.

 

Lunch in Le Muse

Once we arrived back to the ship, I had lunch in the MSC Yacht Club restaurant called Le Muse. The food was divine (for a lack of a better word). The restaurant is part of the MSC Yacht Club experience for those staying in that category of stateroom. As I learned earlier, MSC Cruises likes to pair experiences with passengers (at an extra cost). More about the food experience later.

Tonight it is back to the Black Crab restaurant. Brian and I managed to get our dining changed to the early seating and we absolutely love our waiters and the head waiter. The Assistant Maitre d’Hotel hooked me up last night with the most amazing pasta: served hot with just the right amount of fresh parm…
