And the winner is…. The cruise lines’ Social media sites were buzzing with posts announcing this year’s  Travel + Leisure 2012 World’s Best Awards winners.

Rounding out the list were most of my favorite cruise lines like: Crystal Cruises, which took top honors in the Large-ship category.  Read the summaries below to learn what other cruise lines’ are joining Crystal Cruises in winner’s circle.

The top social site for this edition of Cruise Biz Buzz was Facebook.The cruise lines reminded me about the Olympics, the birthday of the Bikini, and I was able to catch up on some Tour de France news.

In honor of the Olympics and in the spirit of trivial pursuits, I found Princess Cruises’ Facebook post about port of call Katakolon (gateway to Olympia, site of the original Olympic Games) interesting. Who knew about the birthplace of the yo-yo? Thanks to Princess Cruises for reminding us about Ancient Greece and thank you to Paul Gauguin Cruises for posting a reminder to celebrate the Bikini, which made its debut 66 years ago.

The commentators from NBC covering the Tour de France might not be looking at bikinis, however if they turned around, they could have seen Uniworld’s River Baroness floating on the Seine in Rouen.

  Royal Caribbean International asks us “When is your  favorite time to eat onboard?” Despite bordering on “TMI” (too much information) it does get me to thinking about the ships and the wonderful food found onboard.
