How to Connect in Europe on your cell phone

Well, I am going to turn the tables and ask the readers a question about my iPhone. I purposely bought an unlocked international iPhone and I am hoping to get online for cheap.

Dear Internet,

I am going on a Grand Mediterranean cruise adventure. I can’t wait to keep my friends back home updated about my every move. I have an unlocked iPhone and I have high hopes to be able to avoid paying my cell phone company international data roaming charges.  What do I do?

I will be visiting the following places:

• Istanbul, Turkey
• Mykonos, Greece
• Naples, Italy (for Capri & Pompeii)
• Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy
• Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy
• Cannes, France
• Barcelona, Spain

I would like to learn about my options as a cruise visitor with limited time in port. I am mainly interested in security for my phone, how to purchase a card, and where does one purchase International SIM cards while in port.
