We wrote about the new cruise ships entering the market in 2013 (read that article here) and decided it was time to check in and see what was buzzing ….

New York has Norwegian Breakaway

Norwegian Breakaway made it to her new home port during the early part of May. If you are in New York when the ship is in port, it will be hard to miss the iconic Peter Max hull celebrating the Big Apple.  Norwegian Breakaway will sail 7 and 12 day cruises from New York to Bahamas, Bermuda and Florida.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises Europa 2

Considered by some to be the “most beautiful yacht in the world”, this uber-luxe ship sailed her maiden voyage on May 11, 2013.

German luxury line Hapag-Lloyd Cruises  took delivery of its first new-build in over a decade. The 516-guest Europa 2 was built at the STX France shipyard in St. Nazaire, France.

 

Still to come…. Royal Princess

The 141,000 ton new-build from Princess Cruises is getting her final touches at the Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The inaugural cruise is scheduled for June 16, 2013.

In the photo above you can see the upper deck with the Movies Under the Stars screen, the light show illuminating the sky, and the glass-enclosed “SeaWalk”. I am very excited to see this new ship in person in August. Make sure to let me know what you want me to take photos of.  Royal Princess will debut in Europe sailing the Mediterranean and Baltic before heading to the Caribbean during 2013/2014.

River Cruise Ship News

Viking River Cruises sets a new record for the most ships christened in a day

Viking River Cruises has made a big splash in the river cruise industry for years with 30 plus ships and 12 more on order for 2014. And if dominance on the rivers was not enough, Viking recently announced plans to enter the ocean cruise industry…. stay tuned for more developments.

Uniworld Boutique Cruises, AMA Waterways and Avalon Waterways have also been busy preparing new product for the river cruise market. Making her debut in the spring of 2013 AmaVida  will offer  AmaWaterways’ distinctive river cruise product to the Douro River in Portugal. While Uniworld’s River Orchid will will focus on the Mekong river.
