Day 6 – Viking River Cruises stop in Bratislava, Slovakia

Viking Skadi called on Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The ship offered a complimentary walking tour of the old town and a optional (additional cost) tour of a local person’s home. I chose to go it alone to check out the Christmas markets, which was very easy to do with the city map the ship gave me.

Bratislavia roofs — Bratislava offers a mix of old and new architecture.

Bratislava Castle towers above the town but there is not much inside since the fortress was destroyed by a fire in 1811.

While walking around Bratislava, be on the lookout for statues that appear in very unexpected places in the old town.

Prices at the Christmas markets were very reasonable compared to yesterday’s markets in Vienna, Austria. in Bratislava very good, selection of wood items and porcelains a specialty.
