Review of Crystal Cruises “Storyteller” iPhone app

Crystal Cruises iPhone App

Bravo to Crystal Cruises for launching an app.  “The Storyteller” photo-customization app is available for free download from iTunes.

Crystal Cruises The Storyteller app

Passengers on a Crystal Cruise need only to shoot a photo with their iPhone and they will be able to “tell” their story to friends and family by customizing their photos with the app. A video with step-by-step app instructions can be viewed on Crystal’s website and Facebook page.  The application is compatible with 3GS, 4, and 4S iPhones.

How to find the app (and it’s not that easy)

First of all, to find the app login to iTunes and search “The Storyteller by Crystal Cruises.”

The purpose of the app is to help travelers share images of their journeys via social media, email and even traditional U.S. Postal Service mail.

Crystal Cruises claims that this a “luxury cruise industry first,” which is accurate. What I like is the possibility of capturing my Crystal moment and then sharing that with my friends. The app will layer into the line’s recently launched “Begin a New Story”  campaign.

Here’s how it works

Travelers can  snap what they deem “a memorable moment” on their iPhone, and then use the app to add professional-style effects and share the image on either their personal Facebook page, Crystal Cruises’ Facebook page, via email or U.S. mail.

“Contemporary storytelling”

Photos from The Storyteller app can be uploaded to Crystal Cruises Facebook app called Never Ending Journal

Crystal’s Facebook fan page  at www.facebook.com/crystalcruises will have a “Never Ending Journal” section where all photo submissions will be compiled into an online group journal and categorized by cruise.

Combining photography, technology and creativity, says Crystal’s Vice President of Marketing Nitsa Lewis allows tech-savvy cruisers to tell their story. Combine this with the mission of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s desire to create “social by design” opportunities, and you have a home run.
