The Interview

I managed to catch up with Marisa Scime, Social Media Director at Norwegian Cruise Line to find out a little more information about Norwegian Breakaway.

Cruise Buzz: There was a lot of energy early-on to get the travel community behind Breakaway, how do you think your efforts have paid off so far?

Norwegian Cruise Line:  Our efforts have definitely paid off because there is a ton of excitement, awareness and buzz around our new ship – which all helping to achieve our overall goal of generating bookings!

Cruise Buzz:   I am getting caught up with the enthusiasm online around Breakaway, and I find myself waiting for news from the shipyard. What has been your reaction to the online support from Facebook Fans, Twitter followers, Pintererst fans, travel partners, and customers?

We absolutely love the support and excitement of our fans around Norwegian Breakaway – it makes everyone at Norwegian even more excited about the launch of this ship – as they say, enthusiasm is contagious! – Marisa Scime

Norwegian Cruise Line:   When we receive updates and all of the amazing photos from the yard, the first thing that we think is “WOW – we can’t wait to share this with our fans!” and the response in terms of likes, re-tweets, etc. has been incredible! We have fans reaching out to us daily to ask when the next announcement or photo will be shared!

Cruise Buzz:  Peter Max, wow! How did that partnership begin?

Norwegian Cruise Line:   Since Norwegian Breakaway will be “New York’s ship” there were many reasons why we chose a well-known artist – Peter Max – to paint our hull. First of all, New York City is all about WOW factor, and is known for its incredible art scene. We wanted to make Norwegian Breakaway a destination for art lovers, whether they plan to sail with us, or just plan to check out the ship while she is in port every weekend. Next, we wanted an artist who represented New York City, and has a connection to the city. Peter Max is not only a New York City resident, he is also known for his famous Status of Liberty paintings (which he has gifted to every US President since Ronald Regan) and also for leading the $357mm Statue of Liberty renovation project in 1982. The artwork he created for the ship has had mixed reviews, but we love it, and love how much passion he has for his creation and for our ship. He calls Norwegian Breakaway “my baby”…did you have a chance to read the recent blog entry?

Cruise Buzz: What are the advantages of having Breakaway homeport in New York City year round?

Norwegian Cruise Line:   What aren’t the advantages! We are pulling the entire city of New York, one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world, out to sea – giving guests an experience at sea unlike any other, and the opportunity to cruise any time of year.

Cruise Buzz:  What new features on Breakaway can cruisers look forward to?

Norwegian Cruise Line:   Guests sailing on board will love Norwegian Breakaway’s connection to the ocean – the unique outdoor dining areas. They will love the variety of non-stop entertainment from Rock of ages and Burn the Floor to Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy and dinner to Slam Allen, The Second City and Howl at the Moon.

Foodies will go crazy over Norwegian Breakaway – 20 different dining options!

Including a brand new seafood restaurant by Celebrity Iron Chef, Geoffrey Zakarian Ocean Blue. They will also love whizzing down one of the waterslides at the largest water park at sea, testing their might on one of the 40-different ropes courses or walking the plank! Kids will love all of the Nickelodeon activities or any of the activities offered in Splash Academy, Norwegian’s completely revamped kid’s program.
