Princess Cruises Day 2 #FollowMeAtSea Fairbanks and the Midnight Sun

Yesterday the #FollowMeAtSea group kicked off our 11 day land and sea tour in Fairbanks, Alaska.

I got to meet my Twitter friends in person and their guests along with the incredible staff that went out of their way to treat us to a fantastic dinner.  We are part of an escorted group tour which allows us to experience Alaska without having to worry about logistics. Our guide is veteran Alaska expert Guy Glaeser from Portland, Oregon. His mission is to help us discover Alaska and the people that make this a special place.

We will be updating tweets along the way so make sure to follow along as we share our journey via Twitter.

After some uneventful flying from Orange County to Fairbanks, CruiseJess and I checked into our riverside room on the second floor of the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge.

The weather has been holding and although today I wake to some low cloud cover, it is not raining. The sun was out all night which is always fun to whitness first hand. I had to close the curtain after midnight as the sky was bright and there was no chance that the dark would arrive.

The general atmosphere here is like Disneyland. You can feel the anticipation of the guests who are excited to enjoy the activitiees in Fairbanks.

Fairbanks is a town that was founded by miners consumed with the “gold fever.”  Fairbanks is the gateway to Alaska’s rugged interior. No place in Alaska is a better blend of frontier culture and present day adventure than the “Golden Heart City,” renowned for its historical and modern gold industries.  Fall under the spell of Klondike gold or head up river on a Sternwheeler to get a taste of the area’s rich history.

Princess Tours (the land based operation of Princess Cruises) really does deliver the goods on their Alaska cruisetour products. Today we board the train and escape completely with Princess Cruises as we head to Denali National Park.

  2. How lucky you are to have the fabulous “Gee” as your guide (as I can testify, as an alumnus of one of Guy’s tours). Truly a wonderful man, not to mention guide. His knowledge and enthusiasm is unmatched. Thanks for your updates. It makes your readers feel like they are riding along in the seat next to you. My daughter spent a summer working on the Alaska Railroad and making the trip between Anchorage and Fairbanks several times a week. I can appreciate how hard those young people work for their money, to make sure passengers have an unforgettable experience…that is more than just a scenic tour.
