Photo Tour from shore leave in Glasgow, Scotland.
Port Buzz: Glasgow, Scotland via Greenock. Photo tour from a full-day in port via Azamara Quest.
Today Azamara Quest called on Greenock, which is located in Inverclyde a short 45-minute train ride to the Glasgow Central train station in the city center. Scotland’s largest city offers cruise passengers a lot of options, especially when cruising on Azamara Club Cruises, we actually arrived in the morning and the ship does not leave the port until 8:00 pm. These is plenty of time to take a Land Discoveries Tour offered by the ship, or brave it alone like a lot of passengers did by taking the train into the city independently.
The plan was easy: disembark the ship take a brief walk from Ocean Terminal to the local Greencok station and then get to the city.
The cost of a roundtrip ticket was approximately 7-pounds(buy it at the window inside or on the train – but inside is easier and less hassle) and the cost of the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus with narrated guide was 13 pounds. The cost of a pint of beer at a local brew pub was 4 pounds. What a great way to discover this vibrant and friendly city.
Onward to Glasgow
Pick up the bus at George Square
Program your GPS to get to George Square and on the way check out the lively streets along the way.
Tip: get on one of the buses with a real person offering the guided tour. It’s worth a little wait if one of the buses is not at your stop. There are over 28 stops along the tour, plan to spend about two hours on the bus, which is what I did with a brief break by the museum and Glasgow University.
Glasgow skyline
There are a collection of modern buildings as well as relics from the past.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Located at bus stop number 23, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a must see. Located close to Glasgow University, there is a lot to do and see in this part of the bus tour.
BrewDog Bar
This brand of bars serves Scottish brewery’s craft beers, with regular guest brews. It was centrally located by the museum, so giving it a try before hopping back on the bus was a good idea.
