Corfu is the northernmost of the major Ionian Islands and it is a very easy port for cruise visitors to explore. Silversea provided a variety of excursions that took visitors to the major highlights as well as a complimentary shuttle bus to the city center. The cruise ship docks in New Port, is not very far from the Old Town. There are cafes and restaurants along the waterfront if a leisurely stroll is more to your tastes.

It’s worth taking the shuttle bus to Old Town Cofu to enjoy the architecture and stunning views of the sea. Be on the lookout for the vibrant colors: emerald mountains, faded yellow and ochre-colored buildings, and turquoise waters.  Upon exiting the shuttle bus, I headed to the Old Fortress and found a lovely spot for a swim near the Corfu Sailing Club. The admission price to get into the Old Fortress to see the museum and to hike to the top of the hill costs 4 Euro. Consider this a great value because the access to the rocky beach is within the gates of the Old Fortress. There are other beaches to explore but this one was not crowded and very tranquil. The views of the stunning coastline and crystal clear water was totally worth the discovery.

The Old Town of Corfu is beautifully preserved and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Taking the town by foot is the best way to get lost in the tight streets before heading out to the large square called the Spianáda.
