Culinary artists showcase their talents in cake contest commemorating company’s 100th cruise ship.
Congratulations to the Holland America Line’s Rotterdam team who won top honors for their innovative creation. The culinary team of Holland America’s ms Rotterdam turned its retreat pool into a giant cake-stand.
All cruise lines were represented (part of the requirements of the competion) by “Carnival Corp. mini cruise ship” cakes, all made by pastry chef Alex Latayan and his team. The cakes were surrounded by inflatable Holland America Line ships floating in the pool.
The Rotterdam’s winning entry, along with a sampling of the honorable mention entries submitted by the company’s cruise brands, can be viewed here.
In a unique competition that showcased the incredible talents of its culinary artists, Carnival Corporation invited pastry chefs from across its 10 worldwide brands to create custom-designed cakes to commemorate the historic launch of the company’s 100th cruise ship, Carnival Magic.
The competition required teams to design an elaborate series of 10 cruise ship-shaped cakes, each representing a different Carnival Corporation brand brand ship. The winning entry was a three-tiered cake that paid homage to Holland America’s role in the 100th ship achievement.
Micky Arison, Carnival Corporation chairman and CEO picked the winning entry. The winning team of the cake contest received $10,000 towards a crew party, I mean celebration.
