Disney Wonder makes maiden call to San Diego
San Diego was the place to be for breaking cruise buzz on the West Coast, Friday, September 21, 2012. The 964-foot Disney Wonder is the first Disney Cruise Line ship to visit San Diego. Coincidentally, the inaugural visit of Disney Wonder marks the beginning of the 2012-13 cruise season at the Port of San Diego.
Cruise guests were greeted by members of the San Diego State University’s marching band and representatives from the community who welcomed cruise visitors.
Disney Wonder hosted local port officials and community leaders aboard for a plaque exchange ceremony to celebrate the event. In addition to local authorities, Disney Wonder also hosted characters from Pixar Animation Studios’ award-winning films who are sailing on board for the first time.
Pixar-themed Coastal Cruises
Disney Cruise Line’s California Coast cruises feature exclusive Pixar amenities where guests can go behind the scenes of upcoming films with Pixar film makers and meet some of the characters from their favorite Pixar films.
San Diego is one of the ports of call during the new Pixar-themed California Coast itineraries on the Disney Wonder sailing between September 16 Through October 14, calling on Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Ensenada, Mexico.
During the coastal cruise itineraries Pixar employees are sailing onboard to give talks about the movies that they worked on. John Lasseter (featured in the video above) was on the ship when she called on San Francisco (home of Pixar). During the Pixar-theme cruises there is a film festival, which features the entire Pixar library – including shorts – screened in the ship’s two theaters, on the jumbo LED screen on deck and on stateroom TVs.
Disney Pixar Characters Set Sail
Mr. And Mrs. Incredible, Remy, Emile, Doug, Mr. Fredrickson, Russell, Jessie, Woody, Buzz and Flick helped celebrate the kick off of the four Pixar-themed California coastal cruises.
With the Pixar-themed cruises coinciding with the theatrical premiere of Finding Nemo 3-D, that movie also will be shown in the Disney Wonder’s 3-D-equipped theaters.
