Q&A with Holland America Line about Pinterest

Q: How does HAL use Pinterest?

A:  Pinterest is a visual social media channel, and travel is extremely visual. So we have Pinterest boards for all of our destinations. We also are able to showcase our ships, and different elements of cruising that might not be 100 percent cruise focused, like our “Mad About Chairs” board. We hope that someone sees the beautiful photos in one of the boards and says “Wow, I want to go there on a Holland America Line cruise.”

Q:  What are your favorite Holland America Line pinboards and why?

A:  We have a lot of great boards, but we especially love the Antarctica board. It’s one of the most remote parts of the world and not many people ever get to see it in person, so this is the next best thing. There are some beautiful shots and travelers can see that a cruise to Antarctica is an exceptional experience.

The “Rudi’s Recipes … and More” board is also a favorite because people can see and make some of our delicious dishes.

Q: Do you have any tips for new pinners?

A: It’s all about the photo. You pin a gorgeous photo and people will look. Then they will click through to where the photo comes from.  It’s a very personal social media outlet. The boards really reflect the product or the person. But my best advice is to have fun and enjoy browsing around!
