Top 3 Cruise Travel Innovations

Top 3 Cruise Travel Innovations

In honor of the September #TWchats taking place Wednesday, (tomorrow) at 3 p.m. Eastern/Noon Pacific on Twitter, I wanted to list my Top 5 Cruise Innovations.

1. Innovative Stateroom Design

2. Gourmet Cooking Classes and Demonstration Kitchens

Cooking classes on ships are popular with cruise passengers. Some ships are equipped with demonstration kitchens like on Holland America Line. In addition to the demonstration kitchen concept, some cruise lines are also designing their ships with state-of-the-art culinary centers like Oceania Cruises’ Bon Appétit Culinary Center.

Cooking Dutch Pancakes with the captain on Holland America Line. Captain Arjen C. van der Loo makes Dutch Pancakes onboard m/s Oosterdam.  Presentations from award-winning master chefs have become a tradition in the Culinary Arts Center, presented by Food and Wine Magazine. On my particular sailing, I attended a culinary demonstration from a master chef who also happened to be the master of the vessel.

3.  Cruise innovation: mastering spa spaces on the ships

Cruise passengers seeking some rest and relaxation will have no shortage of unique spa themes to choose from. The new Sanctuary space on Princess Cruises, Royal Princess has been greatly improved with new cabanas, and amenities galore.

Another cruise line that I think has mastered the art of spa on ships is Celebrity Cruises’ AquaSpa. The AquaSpa on the Celebrity’s newer ships includes the AquaClass spa cabins and the AquaSpa Café and Blu.  I also found the spa space on Seabourn Odyssey to have a lot of promise (and I can’t wait to actually sample some of their innovative spa services one day).

And no mention of wellness of the ships is complete without discussing fitness center innovations. Check out my article here to see a run down of some of my favorite spaces (click here to see fitness centers)
