Malta’s capital, Valletta, is situated in the middle of the Mediterranean, just 52 miles south of Sicily, yet it seems like it is a step back in time. The archipelago is located in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast. Cruise visitors will discover cultural sites of historic significance that tell the story of Matla. For example, there are many sites related to a succession of rulers that include Romans, Moors, Knights of Saint John, French and British.

Your ship will dock very close to the city center. There is a very steep hill to ascend but before you know it, you are inside the walled city.

 

Not to miss – Highlights

Malta’s highlights include medieval castles, palaces, minarets, and churches.  If you are interested in visiting building of historic importance, then Valletta will not disappoint.

Walk around the old city

Look at the Grand Harbour from Valletta’s Upper Barrakka, the view is amazing.

Fort St. Elmo
Fort St. Elmo is a fort and bastion in Valletta. It was built around the Grand Harbour and dating back to 1565

Grand Haven
Grand Haven is a natural harbor of Malta. During the Second World War there occurred violent bombardments place.

The Palace of the Grandmasters
This palace was built by Grand Master Jean de la Vallette in 1565.

Inn of Castile
Inn of Castile is a historic building used by the Prime Minister of Malta. It dates from 1574 and was built by architect Glormu Cassar.

St. Jansco Cathedral
The cathedral, which is a national monument was built between 1573 and 1578.
