Paul Gauguin Cruises New Cruise Ship the m/v Tere Moana Christened in St. Martin
Paul Gauguin Cruises christened its new luxurious ship, the m/v Tere Moana on December 29, 2012, in Marigot, St. Martin.
The Moana’s godmother Mireille Bailey, Richard Bailey, Chairman of Paul Gauguin Cruises and President and CEO of Pacific Beachcomber S.C., presided over the festivities. Also in attendance were Diane Moore, President of Paul Gauguin Cruises, and Captain Rajko Zupan, the ship’s Master. Officials from St. Martin included St. Martin’s Vice President of the Collectivité, Port Chairman, Port Director, and Tourist Board. Samson Dorival delivered the ship’s blessing.
After the ceremony, a Champagne reception followed by a gala dinner was held aboard The Moana before the ship set sail on its inaugural 7-night Caribbean voyage to visit islands in the French West Indies, British Virgin Islands, and St. Kitts & Nevis.
Meet m/v Tere Moana: Paul Gauguin’s newest cruise ship
The Moana, which means Ocean Traveler in Tahitian was built in 1998 at Alstom Leroux in St Malo, France. The ship formerly operated as Le Levant for Compagnie du Ponant was delivered to Paul Gauguin Cruises in the fall of 2012.
At 330 feet long and 46 feet wide, The Moana has a draft of 11.5 feet, and accommodates 90 guests with a staff of 60. There are 45 oceanview staterooms, 8 that have private balconies.
Cruise guests will sample unique itineraries that larger ships cannot offer while sailing the Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe.
In January and February, the Moana embarks on 13- and 14-day Panama Canal cruises. From April through November, the ship will sail a variety of seven-day European voyages.
