Port Buzz: Santa Cruz de la Palma, Canary Islands, Spain

Silver Spirit in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Silversea Silver Spirit called on Santa Cruz de La Palma, the capital of the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. This marks our final full-day in port before debarking tomorrow in Las Palmas.  The ship is very close to town so a quick walk was all that was needed to get into the city center. Cruise passengers wanting to experience La Isla Bonita (the pretty island) should take a shore excursion into the interior to see Taburiente National Park.

Walking tour to the sites: church built during the Renaissance.

Instead of an organized shore trip, I wanted to spend my last day on the ship by the pool relaxing before jetting off to Madrid and then onto Los Angeles.  The town had some beautiful architecture. Old and new buildings greeted passengers from three ships that happened to be in port at the same time.

Local cheese, oils, fruits and vegetables for sale in the market.

My favorite encounter was at the market where I purchased some local nuts (don’t tell my dentist but I got a big bag of corn nuts) and I got to enjoy the fresh organic and locally grown fruits.

The Butler Did It

Meet the 2012 Silversea Butler of the Year (per CruiseBuzz)

All good things must come to an end…. But before I call this cruise over, I am going to do something totally unique and completely unexpected: I am going to agree to accept my  butler Roland’s offer to help me pack.

The chore of packing my clothes at the end of this 9-day Silversea cruise through Spain and Morocco marks the beginning of my return to reality. It does not seem fair to have to say goodbye to all my new friends and to let the crew know that I look forward to seeing them again soon.

I am still having a love affair with my suite and all the amenities I have grown to adore: the sunken Jacuzzi tub, marble bath, three-types of pillows I sleep with every night, the Illy Espresso maker, walk-in closet, and oversized verandah suite are just as fab as the day I embarked.

This time I say yes, help me pack

Roland off to the laundry

When I mentioned to Roland that I really was not looking forward to packing my suitcase, he offered to help.  I know that a lot of people prefer to pack their own bags, but this time I relinquished control and decided it would be a good idea to see if I could learn a couple of packing tips from a pro…..

Next stop Las Palmas and then Madid
